Most Embarrassing Thing That’s Happened to Me in Real Estate!

Hi, Justine Valender Centurion Real Estate in High Wycombe.

I got asked the other day, ‘what is the most embarrassing thing that happened to me in the real estate’.

I’ve had a few things happen in my time, but there’s one particular story, which I thought I would share. A typical day in the office, a call came through with a landlord that was wanting some information on renting out his property. His property was a little bit unusual because it was a rural property.

For those of you who know, we manage and based in High Wycombe, we do the Foothills, Kalamunda, Forrestfield, Midland. We don’t really come across a lot of rural properties. But, hey, that’s all right. I thought I’d go out , We do them but they just don’t come in often.

I went out and organised an appointment to go and see the property and meet with this owner and just go through our services with them. When I got there, a typical house actually from the outset; a little three bedroom, two bathroom. On the left hand side was a really big driveway, powered workshop to the left. And then, right at the back there was just a garage, then there was just pretty much paddocks, six or seven paddocks down the back.

I went up and I knocked on the door. As I walked up, I noticed some really aggressive barking dogs on the left hand side, which were obviously a part of the property. I just made note of them. But that’s okay and they opened the door.

It was actually the owner I was meeting but it was his Mum that was there. She invited me in. She was just around doing some of the cleaning and helping him out. And said that his son was on the tractors at the back of the paddocks just doing some of the fencing, if I wanted to go back there and see him and have a chat with him out there.

I had a little bit of a walk through inside. Went out the back and started walking across these paddocks. Again his dogs sort of moved around and I can see them now. They were just fixated on me barking at me.

For those of you know, I’ve got two boxer dogs. I’m quite familiar with dogs. I’m not scared at them at all. But I was very aware this was quite aggressive bark. Anyway, that was fine. I kept walking over to the fence and I had my listing presentation kit in my hand and my high heels not very prepared for a rural property but that’s okay. Off I trotted.

I got through one paddock. I could see the owner down at the back so I almost had to go across another paddock before I got to him.

The next thing, I just looked over to these dogs and I noticed that one of them had wiggled under the fence, got free. The other dog followed him. At this point, they just came charging at me, full paw charging at me.

I was in the middle of this paddock. Split second I just thought, I didn’t know where to run. The house was too far away. I saw a tree and a saw a fence. There were my only options and these dogs were gaining on me. They were just so fast. I’ve never been so scared in my life. I ran to the fence.

It was huge. I was wearing my high heels, ran and I pulled myself over the fence. It had been raining the day before so I actually slid over the fence and landed on the paddock on the other side. My high heeled went flying. I’ve never been so scared in my life. I looked up and I can see the dogs were trying to figure out how to get to me. Saw the entrance to this other paddock so they’re running down at this point. So they have to jump and jump back upon the fence.

This time I had to sit on there and just wait. These dogs then at this point were just jumping and trying to get to me. They were so aggressive.

I was just petrified. I’ve never been so scared. I looked across the owner at this point has jumped off his truck and he’s just coming running towards me. He’s called the dogs back and they backed away.

I’m on the fence shaking and he gives me his hand, helps down. He’s jus shaking his head and then he’s also laughing. He apologized for laughing.

He said, “I’ve just never seen someone run so fast in high heels. I’m just so sorry.”He was sorry but laughing. It was just terrible.

Anyway, I picked up. I get off the fence and I picked up my pack, my presentation kit. I picked up my high heels and I hobbled back inside the house and went through our services together and every now and again he just stopped and bursted out laughing. He said, “I’m so sorry. I just cannot believe what I’ve just witnessed and what just happened.” We had a good laugh about it.

Needless to say, I got the management and I got a great story out of it. So that was definitely one of the most embarrassing things that happened to me in the real estate.

I hope you guys enjoyed it.
